SWEET JESUS!!!  When two of my absolute favorite things on the planet, politics and gambling, come together I swear it's like manna from Heaven.

TIME wrote a marvelous piece Wednesday (which I've posted in its entirety after the jump) talking about what Barack Obama and John McCain's gambling proclivities tell us about them as political candidates.

You may not know this, but you can pretty much divide the world into two groups: people who like to throw dice vs. people who like to throw cards.

TIME observes that "the casino craps player is a social animal, a thrill seeker who wants not just to win but to win with a crowd" -- rightly pointing out that craps is "a game for showmen, Hollywood stars and basketball legends with girls on their arms."

On the other hand, TIME notes that the backroom poker player is "more cautious," "self-absorbed," and less interested in drama -- adding that in poker "the quiet card counter is king," only "a novice banks on luck," and "the studied observer beats the showman."

I'll leave it to you to figure out which of the two candidates plays craps and which plays poker.

But I will admit that in my opinion John McCain gets the better of Barack Obama in this piece -- mainly because TIME offers details on a subject about which we rarely hear anything -- John McCain in his 20s and how he spent that period drinking and whoring around the world!

There were little things from the article kind of threw me though, like that by his mid-20s, McCain had, QUOTE, "begun to aspire to a reputation for more commendable achievements than long nights of drinking and gambling."

Am I missing something?  What could more commendable than long nights spent drinking and gambling?

The Candidates as High Rollers
